Our first race meet of the year was held this past weekend and everything went very well. I did make a few mistakes on the reporting of the results but, thankfully, there are a lot of great folk who shared their experience with me.
Sprint racing was on Saturday and, although we had all the dogs at the track, none were entered. Tighe did run three times as a training dog: once with his daughter, Kekei; once with Dayton's half-brother, Blacky; and once with another of Dayton's half-brothers, Indy. He had a blast and, best of all, his toes were absolutely fine afterwards. The grass was very wet and smooshy. I'm pretty sure that field is over-irrigated most of the year so there's a good chance Tighe will be able to run the sprint track there in the future. Yippee!
Rogie got to chase the lure twice on Saturday as well. He only ran 125yds or so. He is very, very keen; I think he's going to be a lot of fun to race.
For Sunday's oval meet, we only brought Dayton and Rogie to the track. Dayton was entered and I wanted Rogie to get some more socialisation. It didn't take him long to figure out that all the people at the race meet are fun (and often have dog cookies); he was much better with them on Sunday.
Dayton had a beautiful race meet. He won his first and third races by a length or two. In his second race, he broke very poorly and was behind the pack going into the first corner. One of the dogs in front of him fell, forcing him to put the brakes on a little bit. He did manage to recover to second place though, placing about a length or two behind the race winner. His fourth race was phenomenal. He had a better break, coming out of the boxes just a hair behind Mushka. He gained the lead by the first turn and continued to pull away from the other dogs for most of the race, eventually winning by several lengths.
Best of all, he finished sound and healthy.
We gave Rogie a very short sprint with no turns. He just loves that lure!
Tighe's daughter, Lace, made her racing debut on Sunday as well. She was incredible and finished fifth in the meet, taking her first ORC point!

Is this Little Dude handsome or what?
I've noticed in the past week or so that he's starting to muscle up; he's looking very good!

After a few weeks off, we're ready to start out a new season.
Dayton and Tighe are looking good and Streaka keeps them in line. Rogie continues to grow; just shy of 6 months old, he now stands 19" tall and weighs 28 pounds. I've revised my height prediction for him to 50.5-51cm. Just perfect!
He's looking more and more like his dad, Frantic, and his aunt, Fenfire.
In news from Europe, Bennet, one of Yankee's pups, has been exported from Germany to Finland; he now lives with the Jewgenistajan whippets!
This weekend, Yankee was bred again, this time to Gogo van de Spaarnemeute. Here is Gogo with Wim van den Broek, her owner and breeder of van de Spaarnemeute whippets:
Dunja has posted a pedigree for this litter on her site: X-Litter van de Spaarnemeute
Gogo is tightly line-bred on some wonderful dogs; if all goes well, this should be a litter worth watching!
